Custom Fused Glass Commissions

Original kiln-formed glass art made for your space, from Dot Galfond's studio in Palm City, Florida. Wall installations, sculptural pieces, and functional vessels, one of a kind and built to last a lifetime.

My Approach

Every commissioned piece I make is a conversation translated into glass. I work from my studio in Palm City, Florida, creating wall installations, sculptural work, and functional vessels for collectors and homeowners across the country and around the world. Here's how a commission comes together.

How a Commission Comes Together

1. We start with a conversation.

The first thing I want to know is what drew you here. Sometimes it's a specific wall in a specific room. Sometimes it's a color that keeps showing up in your space. Sometimes it's a feeling you can't quite name. We talk through all of it: the space, the light it gets, the existing palette, what you want a visitor to feel when they walk in. There's no commitment at this stage. It's just a conversation.

2. We size it for your space.

This is one of my favorite parts of the process. Once we have a rough idea of what we're making, I'll have you cut paper templates in the exact dimensions of the proposed piece. You tape them up on the wall where the piece will live, step back, and look. Almost always, something shifts. A piece that sounded right at six feet feels enormous on the wall; a triptych you'd planned suddenly wants a fourth panel. The paper tells us things words can't, and it costs nothing to find out.

3. Design, scope, and deposit.

Once the size is right, I sketch the piece based on everything we've talked about: the shape language, the color palette, the texture. I provide a written estimate covering the work, materials, timeline, and shipping or installation. A 50% deposit reserves studio time, with the balance due before the piece ships.

4. In the studio.

Most pieces require multiple kiln firings, and each firing is a full 24-hour cycle of slow heat-up, careful holding, and slow cooling down. A typical commission takes 6 to 12 weeks from approved sketch to finished piece, depending on complexity. I send progress photos along the way, both because clients love watching the work emerge and because it keeps us aligned if anything in the design wants adjusting.

5. Delivery and installation.

Finished pieces ship safely throughout the United States and internationally, with full insurance on every shipment. For clients in Florida, I'm often able to deliver in person and consult on installation. Once the piece is on your wall or in your space, it's built to last a lifetime. Fused glass doesn't fade, and with normal care it will look just as alive in twenty years as it does the day it arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The simplest way is to use the contact form on this site or send a direct email describing what you have in mind. I'll respond within a few days to set up a no-obligation conversation about the space, the budget, and what you're hoping for. From there, we follow the five-step process above.

  • Most commissions take 6 to 12 weeks from approved sketch to delivery. Each piece requires multiple kiln firings, and each firing is a full 24-hour cycle, which sets the natural floor on how fast a piece can move through the studio. Larger or more complex installations may take longer. I can sometimes accommodate a tighter timeline, but glass dictates its own schedule.

  • Pricing depends on size, complexity, and the specific glass and techniques a piece requires. I always provide a written estimate before any work begins.

  • I take commissions for wall installations (including the wave series, coral pieces, and one-of-a-kind compositions), sculptural work, and functional vessels including bowls, platters, and serving pieces. If you have an idea I haven't made before, I'm interested in hearing it. Some of my favorite work has come from clients describing something I'd never thought to make.

  • Yes. My work is in private collections across North America and Europe, and I ship worldwide with full insurance. Shipping and installation costs are added to the project estimate.

  • My studio is in Palm City, Florida, on the Treasure Coast. I work primarily by appointment. Local clients are welcome to visit during the design phase or when a piece is ready for pickup.
